Temperatures To Drop Back Into 80s Wednesday
Tuesday's Line Of Severe Storms Washes Humidity Away
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
Tuesday was another scorcher across the tri-state area, hitting the June 10 record for heat at 96 degrees in Central Park.
Although city residents and commuters have felt the wrath of the unusually warm beginning to the summer season, a line of severe thunderstorms provided some much needed relief on Tuesday night. Conditions should be much more comfortable Wednesday and Thursday.
The high in Central Park on Tuesday was 96, beating the 1984 record by one degree.
CBS 2 HD Meteorologist John Elliott says Tuesday afternoon temperatures soared to a high of 98 at LaGuardia Airport.
Severe weather churned upstate and in some of the northern counties in the CBS 2 HD viewing area Tuesday evening. A tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service for Dutchess, Sullivan, and Ulster counties.
The storms the ripped through the area Tuesday night were courtesy of a cold front that is dumping heavy rain on the Midwest.
The payoff will be less humid weather Wednesday. Also, expect a high pressure system to settle in and bring breezy conditions.
Thursday looks to be beautiful, with even cooler weather than is expected Wednesday, along with plenty of sun.
