Rapper Arrested After Woman Shot In New York

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma has been arrested in a shooting outside a swank Manhattan club.

Remy Ma, real name is Remy Smith, is accused of attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and assault in the shooting. Authorities say she fled the scene after the shooting.

Her attorney, Scott Leoman, asks "everyone to keep an open mind." He says things are not always as they seem and urges everyone to wait to pass judgment until the facts are known.

Leoman says Smith's arraignment was likely to take place tomorrow morning.

A 911 call reporting gunfire in the Meatpacking District led police to a 23-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her lower torso just before 4 a.m.

Three blocks away, officers discovered a luxury SUV owned by the rapper. The vehicle had been crashed and abandoned at the corner of 10th Avenue and Little West 12th Street.

Police say the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute at the Pizza Bar. The victim is listed in stable condition at Saint Vincent's Hospital.

Remy Ma was nominated for a Grammy as part of the Terror Squad for the 2004 hit "Lean Back." The 26-year-old Bronx native released her first solo album last year.
