New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says Gordon Brown has a tricky task helping to lead the U.K. -- and Europe -- out of the economic downturn.
Bloomberg said the British prime minister has a tough job as he attempts to shore up Britain's and Europe's financial markets. Bloomberg says current problems are so grave that no one country can solve them alone.
Bloomberg also called for more cooperation among European leaders after a Tuesday meeting with Brown.
The European Union has criticized unilateral moves by Ireland, Germany, Denmark and others to guarantee bank deposits.
On Monday, Bloomberg accepted the freedom of the City of London, a ceremonial award.
