Fla. Woman Recovering After Cheetah Attack

Woman Was Bit More Than 40 Times

WELLINGTON, Fla. (CBS) ― A Palm Beach woman is recovering after being attacked by two cheetahs at a wildlife sanctuary.

The attack happened Saturday about 6:00 p.m. at the Panther Ridge Conservation Center, reported CBS station WFOR-TV in Miami.

Judy Berens, who owns the conservation center, was conducting a show inside the cage, when one of the cheetahs got distracted by a ball being bounced by a child outside of the enclosure.

The cat charged the fence, knocking Berens down to the ground. Both cheetahs who were in the closure then clawed and bit Berens more than 40 times.

The people watching the show managed to rescue her, investigators said. Berens was airlifted to an area hospital.

According to police, Berens sustained non-life threatening injuries.
