D.A. Wants Delay For Deutche Bank Fire Lawsuit
NEW YORK (AP) ―
Prosecutors have asked a judge to delay a lawsuit over a blaze that killed two firefighters at a ruined ground zero skyscraper.
Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said investigators need more time to decide whether any criminal charges will be brought in connection with the tragedy at the former Deutsche Bank building last August.
Firefighters Joseph Graffagnino and Robert Beddi perished when they became lost and disoriented in a maze of construction materials.
Their relatives are suing the contractors and government agencies responsible for the building. Prosecutors said the suit could interfere with their probe.
The fire started as the tower was being dismantled because of damage suffered in the September 11 attacks.
