Tonight's Independence Day celebrations in the Big Apple are promised to be more spectacular than ever.

Organizers are promising an even bigger Independence Day celebration this year, and spectators have been arriving on Manhattan's east side since early Friday morning for the fireworks.
This year's show, called "America Dances," will turn that iconic skyline into a dance floor with a dazzling display of color, light and sound all taking place at two locations from barges on the East River between 10th and 24th streets and from barges set in the South Street Seaport-Brooklyn Bridge area.
The pyrotechnics are set to begin at 9:25 p.m. with 35,000 shells - six times larger than the one in Washington and four times larger than Boston's.
Spectators can watch the fireworks from any point in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens with unobstructed views of the sky over the East River.
The FDR will be closed starting at 7 p.m. from Houston to 42nd streets, with pedestrian access for viewing at the FDR entrances at 23rd, 38th and 42nd streets.
Large backpacks, coolers and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Police have the right to search and seize.
