Con Ed Continues To Work On Power Outages In NYC
BROOKLYN (CBS) ―
There's still plenty of heat, but power has been in short supply for some. Con Ed feeder lines malfunctioned, and and power dipped for tens and thousands on Manhattan's east side on Monday.
Available power saw an eight percent reduction, which meant the lights stayed on, but not much else.
"The AC doesn't run quite as high as it normally does. It feels a little more uncomfortable but not all that noticeable," resident Ken King explained.
Back-up power sources held, and Con Ed got help from residents who followed orders to conserve by only using essential appliances.
"We've definitely been conserving since it has been so hot and we don't have air conditioning. We've lived with our lights on and our fans on," resident Cameo Conover said.
While Con Ed workers spent the heat wave underground trying to restore power, some New Yorkers played sports outside, to the chagrin of their teammates who wouldn't participate because of the heat wave.
Harlem soccer player Kam Preston admonished his team: "You want to die? It's so hot.. I can't make it through. It's too hot, too too hot."
