U.S. Senator From N.J. Visits Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (AP) ― New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez is visiting Afghanistan as part of a weeklong anti-terrorism trip.

The Democratic Foreign Relations Committee member is part of a delegation hoping to get a handle on rising violence, a resurgent Taliban and regrouped al Qaeda along the Afghan-Pakistan border.

The group was in Afghanistan Wednesday, when they planned to visit U.S. troops in Kabul and meet with President Hamid Karzai.

Menendez and the others plan to travel to Kazakhstan and meet with U.S. troops in Germany before returning to Washington Monday.
