Authorities in Southern California have ordered hundreds of people to evacuate their homes as a storm threatens to set off mudslides on hillsides stripped by wildfires.
Brea police Lt. Jim Tibbetts says hundreds of homes in the Orange County suburb of Yorba Linda were placed under a mandatory evacuation order Monday morning.
Tibbetts said he didn't know when residents might be allowed to return.
A wildfire last month stripped vegetation from hillsides in the area and destroyed more than 100 homes.
The storm spread heavy rain across the region Monday morning. It also produced heavy snow at higher elevations and traffic was snarled in mountain passes.
