Wildfire Races Over Eastern Wash.

DAVENPORT, Wash. (AP) ― Firefighters in eastern Washington say a wildfire has raced across about 35 square miles of grass, sagebrush and some scattered trees in a sparsely populated region.

Capt. Scott Crawford of the Spokane Valley Firefighters says the blaze started Monday afternoon near the town of Creston.

He says it has destroyed an abandoned farm building and an abandoned farm house but no injuries have been reported.

Crawford says about 100 firefighters with two bulldozers have been sent to battle the flames Tuesday.

Three people volunteered to leave their homes in the Hawk Creek Ranch area and spent the night at a Red Cross Center in Davenport.

Crawford says the cause of the fire has not been determined.
