Family First: Mommy Networking

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Hey Moms and Dads, how many times have you gotten the evil eye when your baby starts crying or your toddler throws a tantrum in public?

Usually the only sympathetic glance you'll get is from another parent. More and more mommy networking groups are popping up around the area, so we can all go through the fun challenges of picky eaters and weird sleep habits together.

I recently attended a Big City Moms luncheon where it was so refreshing to hear kids cry and see little ones getting changed on the floor without any stress. Everyone was there to meet other moms and to learn what worked and didn't work when it came to the hundreds of baby items we end up buying.

We also had the treat of getting a make-over by Debra Rubin-Roberts who created the Mommy Make-Up line.

After having her daughter Daisy, she realized the days of taking more than ten minutes to put on your face were over.

So if you're looking for other moms who are going through the same parenting challenges, check out one of the many groups that are forming all over the area.

Here are some favorite mommy networking groups of Savvy Mommy Victoria Pericon, editor of SavvyMommy.com and author of "Mommy Land: Entering the Insanity of Motherhood". She recommends finding the right group for you in close proximity to your home so you can easily attend the activities which interest you and build friendships and play dates outside the group's meeting dates.

For Moms in Long Island and Queens -
Mingling Moms meets over lunch for two hours and guest speakers cover a range of topics of interest to a mom of a child under a year old. In addition to the scheduled speaker an interactive song time occurs every luncheon for the babies. Strollers are allowed in the restaurant and a changing table (with wipes and diapers available.)

For Moms in Westchester -
Baby Bites NYC recently expanded from their popular lunches on the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, Union Square and Midtown East to include guest speaker attended lunches for Westchester moms in Larchmont and Chappaqua. Popular children entertainers have entertained in the past so moms in the suburbs need not worry they won't have the same fun lunches offered to the group's Manhattan based moms.

For Moms in Manhattan -
Mom's Night Out focuses exclusively on mom - allowing moms to get together over cocktails and socialize after their children are in bed while hearing a book reading from a popular mom author or for some quality spa time. They also have the most diverse group of moms attending - stay at home moms, new moms, moms who work outside the home and moms with more than one child all attending their events.

Divalysscious Moms takes mommy networking to another level by specializing in events far from the ordinary - from a private breakfast story time with Raggedy Ann and Andy to an expectant mother's tea for those pregnant a second (or third time) around. Their events also offer moms of babies or toddlers the opportunity to attend seasonal parties at the cities hottest family friendly establishments and nights out especially for moms at exclusive movie premieres or store openings.

Metropolitan Moms takes moms (and their babies) on stroller friendly gallery walks, museum visits and culinary adventures. Not one to make grandmas who love to baby-sit feel left out, they also offer a series of classes for grandmas to explore with their grandchildren and a moms only evening series which enables hands on cooking classes.
