NYC Schools Get $17.9 Million Corporate Grant

NEW YORK (AP) ― New York City's public schools have received a $17.9 million grant to help middle school students prepare for college and careers.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday that the gift -- from the GE Foundation's Developing Futures in Education program -- is the biggest single contribution from a corporation ever received by the school system.

The funding will underwrite a pilot program, emphasizing math and science, in about 10 northern Manhattan schools.
