GOP's Christie Calls For NJ To Go Greener

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (CBS) ― Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie is laying out a plan that you might expect from a Democrat.

He wants New Jersey to produce more renewable electricity, along with jobs manufacturing wind turbines and solar panels.

He says in a campaign video posted online Monday that New Jersey energy policy has not gone green enough under Gov. Jon Corzine.

Christie says his ideas are in line with President Barack Obama's on this issue.

He is making it a focus of three campaign events scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Corzine's green energy initiative, announced two years ago, calls for 30 percent of the state's energy to come from renewable sources by 2020. In 2007, just over 1 percent of the state's energy was renewable.

Corzine began serving as the New Jersey governor on Jan. 17, 2006.
