Giuliani Warming Up For Role As GOP Attack Dog

Former NYC Mayor Calls Hillary A 'No-Brainer' For VP

Calls Obama 'Weak' For Refusing To Choose The New York Senator

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Hillary Clinton has a new political pal, her former foe, Rudy Giuliani. The former New York City mayor is slamming Barack Obama for not choosing Clinton as his running mate.

Giuliani and Clinton make a strange pair of bedfellows. But that's what appears to be shaping up. Giuliani said of an Obama-Clinton ticket, "it's kind of a no-brainer."

It's one of the most unlikely political pairings to come down the pike. Giuliani saying he feels Hillary's pain at being passed over as Barack Obama's running mate.

Giuliani, the keynote speaker at next week's Republican Convention, said it wasn't toughness for Obama to say no to Clinton:

"Well, I think it's actually weakness. I mean is it 'tough' to turn down the person that gives you the best chance to win because it unites the party or is it some kind of difficulty in dealing with one of your rivals? I mean honestly, I am just speculating, I don't know," said Giuliani from the beach resort town of Sag Harbor on Saturday.

Giuliani, perhaps warming up for his role as the number one attack dog for the GOP during this week's Democratic Convention, clearly has plenty to work with.

Of those who intend to vote for Hillary Clinton during the convention roll call, 28 percent say they feel there's a real chance Obama will lose the election. Only 45 percent of those Clinton delegates say they're enthusiastic about Obama, compared to 94 percent of the senator's voters. It's a wedge that the Republicans are trying to widen with the latest McCain ad:

"She won millions of votes, but isn't on the ticket. Why? For speaking the truth?" reads the ad.

Many Obama supporters are expressing private anguish at the prominent role the Democratic nominee has given to his former opponent and her husband. Hillary and Bill will be front and center on three out of four days at the convention.

And on the last day, disaffected Clinton delegates will get the opportunity to make a symbolic roll call vote for her nomination, something Giuliani and the rest of the Republicans will surely relish.
