NJ Governor Signs "Made In The USA" Flag Bill
WILLINGBORO, N.J. (CBS) ―
Any United States and New Jersey flags purchased with state funds must now be "Made in the USA."
Gov. Jon S. Corzine signed the legislation Saturday during an event in Willingboro.
"It is only appropriate that this most-revered emblem of our nation, that represents the courage and sacrifice of our fellow-citizens, be produced by American businesses," Corzine said.
The Assembly and Senate unanimously passed legislation, which requires any flag the state purchases be made by domestic manufacturers who meet the "Made in the USA" industry standards.
According to the Flag Manufacturers Association of America, four U.S.-based flag producers meet the group's "Made in the USA" requirements, including Annin & Co. of Bergen County.
Corzine was sworn into office on January 17, 2006.
