Hillary Wins Key N.H. Democratic Endorsement
Former N.H. Democratic Party Chairwoman Sides With 'Most Electable'
CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE (AP) ―
Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton won the endorsement Monday of Kathy Sullivan, former chairwoman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.
Sullivan, who stepped down in March after eight years as party chairwoman, said she picked Clinton because she believes the New York senator is the most qualified candidate, and the most electable.
She praised Clinton's policies on education, women's rights, health care and ending the war in Iraq quickly and safely as well as Clinton's ability to stand up to the "Republican attack machine."
"I think she'll be the best president because she's as smart, if not smarter than anyone else I have ever met, yet she also has something too many smart people don't have: common sense," Sullivan said during a conference call with reporters. "On a personal level, I think she is funny, she is charming, she is warm."
Sullivan called the fact that Clinton would be the first female president a "happy coincidence" rather than a main factor in her decision.
"I'm really proud that a woman of my generation is about to break down doors of the last boy's club house," she said. "It's about time."
