The New York Times identified Ashley Alexandra Dupre as the woman at the center of the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal. Spitzer resigned as governor of New York on March 12, 2008. This picture was taken from Dupre's MySpace.com page.

Her alleged encounter with Eliot Spitzer brought down his administration and ruined his once soaring career. But the 22-year-old alleged prostitute Ashley Youmans, also known as "Kristen," had big aspirations of her own: The New Jersey native wanted to be a professional singer.
As CBS 2 HD found out, her hometown is stunned by the turn her life has taken.
Neighbors told CBS 2 HD they know the woman at the center of the Spitzer sex scandal not as "Kristen" but as Ashley Youmans. And that she spent at least a few years in a sprawling home. The general sentiment in this neighborhood is that no one saw any of this coming.
But who exactly is Ashley Youmans?
Her MySpace page describes a hard life, filled with heartache, abuse and poverty.
But her former neighbors say before Ashley left home about five years ago at the age of 17 to go live with her father in North Carolina she was a happy teenager.
"She just wasn't the person. I just can't believe this would happen, at all," family friend Joe Curiazza said. "She'd come here and play in the yard and stuff like that."
It seems clear Ashley did not enjoy a perfect family life. And it's still unknown why, as a young girl, she moved into her grandfather's home in Jackson.
His message to CBS 2 HD about Ashley was short and to the point.
"I don't know what she did. Get out of here," he said. "She's a very good girl. She's a very nice girl."
No one CBS 2 HD met Thursday offered any hard information that would help shed more light on Ashley's gradual transformation from fun-loving teenager to and alleged high-priced call girl. But neighbors say they have their suspicions.
"Maybe somebody dangled big money in front of her...and she went for it," a family friend known as "Ron" said. "Who knows? To tell you the God's honest truth, the way the financial situation is in this world I'm ready to throw on a pair of heels and fishnets myself."
Said family friend Frank Marsh: "I had heard stories in high school. Maybe she was experimental with the boys and stuff. But nothing I could really substantiate."
Ashley's mother left the house earlier Thursday afternoon with a couple of large bags. She has yet to return.
If Ashley wants to cash in on the Spitzer scandal, it looks like she'll have no problem doing so. At least one adult magazine is trying to get her to appear on its cover.
