Fossella's Humiliated Wife Breaks Silence

Mary Pat Fossella: I Had No Idea What He Was Doing

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The wife of disgraced Congressman Vito Fossella is breaking her silence about her husband's extramarital affair and lovechild.

In an email to a newspaper, Mary Pat Fossella wrote:

"This has been a very painful time for my family and I. I have known Vito since I was 16 years old and this is not what I envisioned for him and my family. I had no idea of this world he was living.

"I am very saddened by how the world I was living in unraveled before my eyes and everyone else's. My focus will continue to be on my three children, as it has been, as I have always maintained a very private life."

On Tuesday, Vito Fossella announced that he won't seek re-election this year, saying he needs to instead focus on healing his family.

However, the embattled politician could still be in trouble with Congress. Late Wednesday the House Ethics Committee voted to investigate his drunk driving case. This committee could decide to throw him out of Congress before his terms ends.
