CBS2 HD presents "Sunburned... Skin Cancer Exposed" on Sunday, August 5 at 11 AM. This original half hour hosted by CBS 2's Dr. Holly Phillips and Dr. Max Gomez highlights the dangers of the sun, new information on skin cancer, and ways to stay protected against the harmful rays.
In "Sunburned
Skin Cancer Exposed," Dr. Holly Phillips defines what skin cancer is, the various types of skin cancer, and the severity of each kind. She also focuses on ways to detect potential skin cancers and how to self screen. In addition, there will be a special segment on the most at risk groups including middle-aged Caucasian men, children, and people of color.
In this half hour, Dr. Max Gomez also focuses on skin cancer prevention and treatment and reports on the best ways to avoid sun overexposure. He also reports on helpful ways to protect yourself if you're out in the sun for prolonged periods of time, and explains what ultraviolet radiation is and why it's dangerous. Dr. Gomez also provides a breakdown of all the latest skin cancer treatments and innovations and reviews the cure-rates for each type of skin cancer.
In a special 'sunscreen alert' CBS 2's investigative reporter Kirstin Cole also takes an in-depth look at sunscreens and discovers what popular brands really work and which ones do not deliver. She also reports on a new study evaluating almost 800 sunscreens and the surprising information the study uncovers. Dr. Holly Phillips and Dr. Max Gomez wrap up the special by taking viewer questions and emails about skin cancer concerns.
