get set
go → Play, Run, Walk, Bike, on the car-free streets of Manhattan for three consecutive Saturdays in August for the NYC Department of Transportation's 1st Annual Summer Streets.
Join CBS 2 HD and weathercaster Lonnie Quinn on August 9th, 16th, and 23rd at the city's biggest street happening of the summer! The fun starts at the Brooklyn Bridge and follows down the connecting streets to the 72nd St. entrance to Central Park (Centre Street, Lafayette Street, and 4th Avenue). Roads will be closed to motorized traffic and open to the public from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome, so bring all of your family and friends.
Summer Streets marks the first of its kind here in New York City. It is based on other similar successful events in Bogotá and Paris. This event is a citywide initiative to re-imagine the way that New Yorkers use their streets. It is a critical part of New York's sustainability and public health agenda to raise the profile of green transportation in the city.
The open streets that stretch almost 7 miles will be free for the public to use in any way they choose. You might think that it can't get much better than this, but it does! Along the path, there will be three rest stops, which will include activities for the arts, fitness and culture. No need to worry, if you forget your bike or get tired of walking, bike shares will be available. It's time you make the city streets you're playground!
