A Long Island company is recalling a popular snack food because of concerns about contamination.
Sea Cliff-based Robert's American Gourmet is recalling all lots and sizes of Veggie Booty Snack Food. The company says the recall follows a report of 51 cases of salmonella poisoning that may be associated with the product.
A company spokeswoman says none of the products has tested positive for salmonella. She says the company acted as a precaution after federal authorities said many of the infected people had eaten the product.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
Robert's American Gourmet says consumers who have Veggie Booty should throw it out and contact the company for reimbursement.
