New York City is revamping its controversial new 9-1-1 dispatching system after two deadly fires raised concern about your safety. Effective Friday the entire program is changing. The city's new fire dispatch system has been beset with problems since it went on line May 9, but it took a fatal fire in Brooklyn and a CBS 2 HD investigation to get action.

A NY1 news anchor accused of assault on his wife, despite her claims she was attacked by someone else, has been found guilty of a lesser charge, a judge ruled on Friday. Dominic Carter, who has covered high-profile political races for the local cable news network for 17 years, was found guilty of third-degree attempted assault by Judge Alan Etelson.

NYC Economy Drops In 3Q, Unemployment Rises

The New York City comptroller's office says the city has suffered its seventh consecutive quarter of negative growth, falling an estimated 1.6 percent in the third quarter of 2009 as the number of those without jobs continued to rise. According to Comptroller William Thompson's third quarter notes, the city's unemployment rate rose to 10.3 percent in September 2009, as compared to 6 percent in September 2008.

NJ District Proposes Charging For Kids' Detention

It's the first of its kind in a New Jersey school district – a plan that would cost parents money for their children's punishment. It's a proposal that has some parents in the Nutley School District up-in-arms, a plan that would make them pay the price for their kids' detention. Two board members are sponsoring the plan that would target students who are habitually sent to detention. Steven Rogers, who is also a police lieutenant, said the proposal would save the district $10,000 a year and force parents to be responsible for their kids. Some parents are furious with the idea.

After more than a century without them, an estimated 3,000 turkeys from Muttontown Preserve to Long Island's East End now roam, strut, gobble, and preen in woods, farms and backyards. Much like deer , say biologists, they are ravaging farms, chewing homeowners, plants, and leaving behind huge droppings as a result. The Department of Environmental Conservation has just approved the first ever wild turkey hunt here to coincide with Thanksgiving.
