MoneySaver Report: Score Free Movie Tickets
Web Sites, Restaurants Provide Discounted & Even Free Seats To Your Favorite Blockbusters
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
As the summer winds down, the fall marks the start of "drama season," when studios begin releasing their best Oscar contenders.
But if the price of a $10 ticket is currently out of your budget, there are secrets to scoring free seats to all of this season's biggest blockbusters.
Larry Laboe loves the movies.
"I probably go to the movies at least two times a week," he says.
It's a habit that could really cost him if he paid face value. But Laboe knows the inside secrets to getting in for free, and it's not sneaking through the back door.
"If you really try, and you really want to, you can go see a movie for free every week," Laboe says.
There are several Web sites that offer free passes to all the biggest movies. "Wild About Movies" and "My Cinema Access," for example, will give you free tickets to dozens of film premieres in a city near you. All you have to do is sign up.
"Generally, most of them will have you put in a user name and password," Susan Johnston, of didyouknow.org, says. "Some of them have several pages, but those pages are optional, so just look for 'skip this step' so you can log on as quick as possible and get ready to find out where the screenings are."
And it's not just the movies. You can also score passes to attend live tapings of your favorite television shows at sites like "Audiences Unlimited."
"They'll tell you which TV shows, what time, what location," Johnston says.
If you don't want to leave home, you can log on to Jaman.com. There, you can log on and watch hundreds of movies, both new and old. Some have a fee, but if you look carefully, there are plenty of free films too.
"It's a great way to sort of discover new things," Johnston says. "They categorize by what your tastes are."
A number of restaurants, like the seafood chain McCormick and Schmick's, are also offering discounted movie tickets as an incentive to eat there.
