Consumer Watch: Sleep Your Way To Gorgeous

CBS 2 HD Has Simple Tips That Will Help You Improve Your Look While You Count Sheep At Night

NEW YORK (CBS) ― We all know the importance of beauty sleep. But did you know there are things you can do while you're sleeping that can really help wake up the look of your skin and hair?

CBS 2 HD has the simple, inexpensive secrets to sleeping yourself gorgeous.

When you turn out the light you might be ready to fall asleep, but your body is just getting started.

"When you are sleeping your body goes through cellular repair," Self Magazine beauty editor Eleanor Langston said.

Especially your skin, so experts say night time is the right time to give your beauty routine a boost.

Believe it or not, Vaseline may be the most essential product of all. It's the most inexpensive secret on the market. Put a little Vaseline on your face after cleansing to reap big benefits the morning.

"A dime-size blob. Massage it in to damp skin so it's going to plump your skin and really up your moisture content," Langston said.

"In the winter time make sure you have an oil based moisturizer because of the dry heat," said Clara Otis of the Upper West Side.

Want to wake up looking well rested? Instead of reaching for another cup of coffee in the morning Langston said apply a generous dose of a caffeine cream at night.

"The caffeine tightens the skin and encourages fluid drainage which will help de-puff the eyes," Langston said.

Another beauty secret that works while you snooze...

"Put a couple of pillows to elevate your head and that will encourage the fluid to drain down instead of pooling around your eye," Langston said.

And dull hair wakes up with an overnight treatment.

"I sleep with a silk scarf so it maintains the moisturizer in my hair," said Tynesha Taylor of the Upper West Side.

You may also want to use a silk or satin pillow case instead of cotton, which will draw moisture away from your face. Also, experts say wash not only your pillow case, but your pillow to get rid which can also retain dirt and oil.

Perhaps most importantly, sleep deprivation wreaks havoc on your skin and is what causes those dark circles and dull skin to add an hour of sleep to your schedule each week. Try going to bed 15 minutes earlier for four nights in a row.
