Chaos On Video: Cop Attacks Teen After Tripping

Female Officer Throws First Punch, But 18-Year-Old Girl Arrested Instead

Incident Occurred During Bronx Baby Shower

NEW YORK (CBS) ― An innocent baby shower this past Saturday turned into a nightmare for a Bronx teenager. In a video obtained by CBS 2 HD, a female NYPD officer is seen approaching the teen and then striking her on the left side of the face.

In slow motion, the officer can clearly be seen swinging and making contact. At first, guests were stunned by the maneuver, but shortly thereafter things gott out of hand.

The recipient of the punch, Rosiel Bautista, 18, who allegedly gave a different name to police, was arrested for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and harassment.

"[The officer] thought she tripped with my shoes, so she turns and she hits me in the face," Bautista said. "I just blacked out. I didn't know what was going on at that moment.

"She said, 'Oh you tried to trip me,' and she said a bad word."

In the complaint to Bronx Supreme Court, Officer Jessica Rodriguez states the Bautista stuck out her foot, causing the officer to stumble.

It then states that as the officer "turned around, the defendant struck the deponent [or officer] with a closed fist upon the deponent's forehead causing scratches and pain to the forehead."

What the complaint doesn't add is the part about the officer being the aggressor.

"She came to hit [me]," Bautista said. "I was trying to get her off me. That's all I was doing."

The night started out innocently enough with several dozen people at the Recreation and Cultural Center on University Avenue rented out by a family celebrating a very special day.

"I was there because it was my best friend's baby shower," Bautista said.

Bautista bought the cake and hung the balloons. There was a crowd of friends and family and the party went into the night.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Instead of having cake, Bautista was soon under arrest and in jail.

The NYPD responded to the location after a 911 call about a loud party. When they arrived at the cultural center they found and confiscated a bottle of rum. The hall only has a liquor license for beer and wine.

Seconds later, mayhem ensued.

"It was not necessary to hit me," Bautista said. "Why did she hit me like that?"

The NYPD has stated the incident resulted in a "lawful arrest of someone who assaulted a police officer." CBS 2 HD offered to show police the videotape, but they refused unless we left it with them, which we declined due to the ongoing legal case.

The teen goes back to court in April.
