HealthWatch: The Minimally Invasive 'Y-Lift'

If You Are Not In The Mood To Go Under The Knife, Here's An Alternative Procedure That Can Last A Few Years

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Put aside your fears of scalpels, stitches and soreness. There's an easier way to restore a youthful look. A breakthrough cosmetic procedure has women leaving the doctor's office with immediate results.

Francoise Rideau had started to see the subtle signs of time on her face.

"Forty was fun, 45, 50 was fun, okay, 55 started to … and now I think it's time," Rideau said. "What I noticed a few years back … when I don't smile, and I love to smile, I have these …. so I just want a little lift up."

But not wanting the severe look of a full face-lift, Rideau went for a minimally invasive procedure called the Y-Lift.

"I think I feel more secure than going through all of the cutting and it'll make me feel better," Rideau said.

Yan Trokel created the procedure. It involves injections of fillers in a Y shape throughout the face. He said it's more effective than a face-lift because it reverses one of the main symptoms of aging -- loss of volume.

"We can actually bring back the youthful face of a person in like 30, 40 minutes," Dr. Trokel said.

"When we're young, we're like balloons, full balloons. And as we age, we just deflate. Our skin gets thinner, our muscles, our fat disappears."

The Y-Lift refreshes the under eye area, cheekbones, jaw line and even lifts and firms the skin around the neck. The injections are safe and there is no scarring.

"The instrument that I've developed is really blunt, so it cannot cause any tearing or any injury," Trokel said.

Unlike a traditional face-lift, this procedure is reversible, but Dr. Trokel said that's rarely needed.

"Now I've done so many of these, I've never had anyone tell me, 'Oh my god, take it back.' But it is reversible," he said.

For Rideau, there was almost no pain, and the results were dramatic.

"Wow, look at that," she said. "I have no makeup but oh gosh!"

Rideau said she can't wait to show off her new look.

"I'm reborn!" she said.

The results of the Y-Lift last up to two years. There is a slight chance of having an allergic reaction to cosmetic fillers. To prevent this, ask your doctor to test a small amount of the filler on the inside of your wrist, before injecting it into your face.

The cost of the Y-Lift procedure starts at $4,500.
