Man Fleeing Police Crashes - Killing Father Of 3

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ― Suffolk County police say a man fleeing police in Medford crashed into two other cars—killing a father of three. Police say the accident at 11:55 Thursday morning involved a man who had stolen landscaping tools.

Police say they were questioning 48-year-old John Licausi of Riverhead about the tools, when he ran to his vehicle. Licausi drove off causing the officer to be brushed back. The officer got in his cruiser and pursued Licausi. At the intersection of Old Medford Avenue and Horseblock Road, Licausi's SUV went through a red light and collided with a Toyota Camry. The driver of the car - 46-year-old Scott Foster of Manorville - was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Another car was damaged in the accident. The driver was treated for minor injuries.

Police say Licausi is charged with Driving while impaired by drugs, Reckless Endangerment, Fleeing a Police Officer and Assault. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
