How honest has former presidential candidate John Edwards been about his affair with a former campaign worker?
One of Rielle Hunter's best friends claims Edwards has repeatedly lied to the public, and she now wants the record set straight.
"He is lying about the timeline of the affair and other details about it," Pidgeon O'Brien said, adding it started in the winter of 2006.
Like most close girlfriends, O'Brien said Hunter confided secrets about her affair with the former senator from North Carolina.
"She's a beautiful, beautiful person in an ugly position and I really feel for her," O'Brien said. "And I think I have never known someone so intent on integrity and honesty and openness."
In an interview with the CBS' "The Early Show," O'Brien said Edwards and Hunter were in a very serious relationship. She also said their affair began six months earlier than Edwards has claimed.
"It was a mutually committed relationship and he persuaded her to believe so," O'Brien said. "In retrospect, I don't know how sincere he was about it."
At first Edwards denied he had an affair with Hunter.
"I don't talk about these tabloids and these tabloid trash," he said back on July 23, in reference to a National Enquirer report on his then-alleged affair. "They're full of lies."
But last week, Edwards admitted he did cheat on his wife, Elizabeth, but still insists he is not the father of Hunter's baby.
"I know it's not possible that this child could be mine because of the timing of events," Edwards said recently.
But O'Brien said there's little doubt that Edwards is the father of Hunter's baby.
"She would not have a baby with someone she didn't love and she loves him," O'Brien said.
O'Brien also said she and Hunter stopped talking once the affair with Edwards began to get serious.
She said Hunter began to "get lost" in the relationship, and pushed many of her closest friends aside.
