N.J. Students 'Moo' Their Way Into Record Books

UNION CITY, N.J. (CBS) ― Got milk? More than a thousand kids in New Jersey do, and they also have a new world record.

So what's louder than a speeding subway train, an ambulance and a chain saw: kids yelling "moo."

13 hundred students at the Robert Waters Elementary School in Union City are doing their best impressions of a cow.

"It's a little…um…I don't think I am going to have a voice tomorrow," said 7th grader Nicole Martinez.

And your throat would hurt too after being part of the first ever, world record "moo" at 130 decibels.

"It was very fun and exciting," 7th grader David Guevara told CBS 2.

The purpose of the "moo" is to get the message out that milk is not only good for you but also essential to children's growth.

"Right now is the time in their life when they really need more calcium," said registered dietician Diane Henderiks.

And the students also got a chance to meet one of the lovely bovines responsible for the nutritious milk, Crystal.

After 3 loud tries, they soothed their soar throats with what else, milk. Now, they've moo-ved right into the record books.
