Arrest Made In Serial Subway Purse Snatcher Case

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Police have arrested a man they believe to be the serial purse snatcher who has attacked numerous women on New York City subways, CBS 2 has confirmed.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Mark McIntosh of 743 E. 9th St. Police charged him with three counts of grand larceny, three counts of robbery, and one count of resisting arrest.

Police say the serial purse snatcher has struck at least six times in the last 10 days, four of those incidents happening near the East Village.

Investigators say the man would grab his victims' purses as they waited on platforms for the train, before quickly running away each time into the tunnel.

Last Friday, the NYPD had nearly captured the suspect, but the man was able to get away when MTA officials refused to turn power off on the track and trap the man. That incident led to a spat between the two departments.
