Rain & Wind Converge For A Messy Friday Across NYC
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The end of the work week got off to an ugly start Friday. Early risers and commuters were greeted with dark skies and cool temperatures, as early morning conditions indicated a wet and wild day ahead.
Rain is expected throughout the morning and into the afternoon, accompanied by damp, brisky winds. The high for the day could reach 61 degrees, with temperatures decreasing in the afternoon.
The subway series is scheduled to kick off this evening, as the two struggling New York area teams square off in the Bronx. CBS 2 Meteorologist John Elliot believes tonight's 7:05 start at the Stadium is feasible, but conditions won't be great either. If you head to the ballpark, be sure to grab an umbrella or raincoat. The winds will persist, although weaker in strength, but the temperatures will be in the lower 50's, about 10 degrees below average for this point in the spring.
Elliot says Friday's conditions won't reflect the outcome of the weekend however, as he expects today to be by far the worst of the weather ahead.
After the evening commute, things should start settling down. But Elliot advises drivers to be aware of some lingering patches of fog throughout the tri-state area.
Are you concerned weather might damper weekend plans? Well, Elliot says not to worry, it shouldn't be a washout by any means. Saturday is looking mixed, with the worst of it expected in the morning. Mostly cloudy skies could give way to moderate clearing, but just to be safe, Elliot is keeping the possibility of some evening showers open. The good news is that temperatures will be back to normal in the lower 70's.
At last, the sun should show its face again on Sunday, as it moves in and out of cloudy skies.
