Couch Potatoes To Ring In 2008 On Couch
NEW YORK (AP) ―
For many sports fans, New Year's Day was made for lounging around the living room and watching college football with a bag of potato chips in hand.
This year, sports fans can actually get rewarded for their laziness.
The ESPN Zone Ultimate Couch Potato Competition is being held tomorrow at the ESPN Zone restaurant in Times Square. Participants will try watch the most continuous hours of televised sports.
Participants can order unlimited food and drinks, but they cannot go to sleep or leave their chair. The only exception is during restroom breaks -- permitted every eight hours.
To get into the competition, contestants had to write 200-word essays describing why they had what it takes to be the ultimate couch potato.
The winner will receive a package worth nearly $5,000. The prize includes -- you guessed it -- a high-definition TV and a cozy recliner.
