Go! New York: Fitness For New Mothers

NEW YORK (CBS) ― It's not quite a marathon, but getting back in shape after having a baby can definitely be hard work. New moms have a lot on their plate, and "working out" can often end up last on the to-do list. But one New York woman is helping moms change that.

The location is Central Park at 9 a.m. The purpose is the ultimate outdoor workout for a new mom.

"It's like bootcamp with a stroller is the way I describe it to my husband," said participant Lindsey Soyka.

"Strollercize" has been around for 15 years and is still one of the best ways to get back in shape for moms with little ones. Elizabeth Trinidade conceived of the idea after years of dancing.

"I love to dance and I was dancing sing I was three and then I had a baby so I started to see the stroller as a ballet bar and listening to Madonna and getting fit," said Trinidade.

Thus, the birth of "Strollercize." Now, seen across the country, it's an intense 45-minute workout where mom and baby can push, lunge and roll their way to greater fitness.

"You have to find those muscles of motherhood," said Trinidade. "Mothers' bodies have changed so much."

Now motherhood is all about multitasking and this is the ultimate multitasking, but the instructor says it's much more than just fitness.

"I implement the family being physically fit, emotionally fit and I add the spiritually fit part," added Trinidade.

Along the route, Elizabeth offers support and advice about the often not-so talked about parts of motherhood, like reconnecting your husband after the baby's birth. She encourages the new moms to share their stories.

"Where are you now let everything go, go back to your familly and feel good about yourself. It makes you feel empowered inside."

In addition to being sore after class, you will also walk away with a network of new friends.
