Breeder's Cup Wooes Filly Rachel Alexandra
NEW YORK (AP) ―
The official wooing of Rachel Alexandra has begun.
The Breeders' Cup said Friday it will add $1 million to the winner's share of the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 7 if both Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta start in America's richest race.
Jess Jackson, who co-owns Rachel Alexandra, has said he won't enter his 3-year-old filly in the Breeders' Cup because the races are being run over a synthetic surface, which he dislikes.
Rachel Alexandra has won nine in row, including victories over males in the Preakness, the Haskell and the Woodward.
The 5-year-old mare Zenyatta is 12-0, mostly over synthetic surfaces.
If both horses run in the 1 1/4-mile Classic, the winner's share would increase to $3.7 million from $2.7 million.
