It's Yankee pride that's all in the family.
A Suffolk County family hit the road Friday to celebrate the World Series champs in the Canyon of Heroes.
"Sadie" the dog was up with the Rios kids at the crack of dawn. Jordan and Jaelyn on the front steps of their pinstriped home-trimmed in Yankee blue. The front lawn signaled to all who pass by that this family in Deer Park lives in a virtual shrine to the world champions.
Every inch of the Yankee TV viewing room is bursting with memorabilia collected by Al and Michelle Rios, who are both dental hygienists -- in their non-Yankee lives.
So they packed up for the parade, singing and cheering all the way.
Goodbye Suffolk County, hello New York, New York!
To the Lower East Side where Al grew up -- a walk to the subway -- the kids utterly overwhelmed with the thrill.
Three hours after leaving Deer Park we made it to the intersection of Broadway and Wall. Now the heroes were just blocks away. The Rios' were trembling.
The Rios' were grateful a parish priest with incense was blessing us all.
Going to work or school Friday, said Al Rios, would've been sacrilegious.
"Yeah, it's like a religious holiday," Al Rios said.
Jordan had some explaining to do about his whereabouts Friday.
"I'm gonna tell my teacher on Monday I had an important meeting," Jordan said.
Jennifer Rios then told us how Jaelyn lost her two front teeth the night the Yankees clinched the World Series.
"I lost them for the Yankees!" Jaelyn said.
And then right before the Rios' eyes were Johnny Damon, Andy Pettitte, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada.
They were pinching themselves in the Canyon of Heroes.
"The Yankees bringing us together as a community," Jennifer said.
