The Bronx Bombers and their fans are hoping to leave Yankee Stadium Wednesday night with a victory.
Hundreds lined up earlier in the day, but only a lucky few walked away with tickets for Game 6 of the World Series. CBS 2 HD caught up with several fans that were willing to let us in on the superstitions they hope will help guide the Yankees to a win.
Everybody's got their "thing" that good luck ritual that'll bring on victory, or stave off defeat.
For many it's simple, but hard to explain.
"I sit in my living room, watch the Yankees and put my hat on," said Mike Larson of Gramercy Park.
"I'm wearing my Don Mattingly jersey, something related to Don Mattingly back in the '80s. I grew up watching Don Mattingly play and I wear that before every big game," said James Novarro of Queens.
The rituals are strongest in the shadow of the Stadium, in the Bronx apartments where you can actually hear the crowd from inside the game. The main thing, we were told by the experts, is "don't jinx it."
"I have to wear this jacket. I've noticed every time I don't wear this jacket we lose," said Mike Acevido of the Bronx.
"When I'm in the house I do a couple of drinks. I do a couple of prayers. I set myself in a certain way, of course. Well, sometimes it doesn't work. They lose," added Otidio Rodriguez of the Bronx.
Sometimes the jinx is a certain "someone" to avoid at game time.
"Yeah, my wife sitting next to me. Yeah, she doesn't sit next to me when the game's going on," said George Romano of Cortlandt Manor.
And some rituals are simply things we have to endure for the team with varying levels of enthusiasm.
"I just stand in line every year waiting for tickets and it's fun. Go Yanks," East Village resident Neil Intraub said.
"I'm doing it right now! Darth Vader's in the house! This is my ritual Yeaaaaaaa! Champions!!! I love you buddy," added an enthusiastic Martin Santiago of the Bronx.
