Yankee Fans In Philly Not Feeling The 'Love'

Transplants Say They Get Heckled All The Time By Phillies Fans, But With 3-1 Lead They Have The Hammer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ― How are New York City transplants handling the fact that their true hometown team is just 27 outs from its 27th World Series championship? Well, In Philadelphia Yankees fans usually stand alone.

Just ask Luis Rodriguez how it is.

Rough, it is. I get heckled all the time. But we're a better team than the Phillies, so we're good," Rodriguez said.

Guy Parente is originally from the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, but he picked up his family and moved to Philadelphia five years ago and opened up NYPD Pizza. Parente's loyalty stayed with the Bronx Bombers, but his wife? Not so much.

"My wife, uh, I don't know I can't tell ya," Parente said. "She just changed over. She said I like the Phillies. She's been wearing Philly gear and, uh, the more Philly gear she wears the more Yankee gear I wear."

You'd be hard pressed to find any Phillies gear in the restaurant, unless it travels in on a local fan who loves Parente's place despite their differences.

"All good. It's still a good place to eat," one patron said.

But a shared love for good food may be all Phillies and Yankee fans have in common. New York fans are few and far between in the City of Brotherly Love.

"They're not supposed to. This is Philly!" one fan said, adding the reason why you see Phillies fans in New York City, "That's 'cause we're not scared of ya'll."

Is it a little tough to be a Yankee fan in Philly?

"Not when you're up 3-1. They got their best guy going tonight so it's best case scenario we go back to New York and take it there," another Yankees fan said.

"You gotta watch your back over here. These guys are a little bit more aggressive and, you know, this is something they're not used to," another transplant said.

Perhaps too comfortable with last year's World Series title, the Philadelphia Inquirer mistakenly printed this ad congratulating the Phillies on being back-to-back champs.

"It should say back-to-back chumps, 'cause that's not right. Yankees going to get this," Charlie Powell said.

Fanaticism can be rough even for Harlan Chamberlain, who travels all across the country to watch his son, Joba Chamberlain, take the mound for the Yankees.

My son has an extreme passion for the game. And if people who are always, unfortunately, on the negative side of the game, they had the same passion, it'd be a lot more pleasant," Harlan said.

Whether it happens Monday night or back in the Bronx starting Wednesday, Yankee fans are tasting a victory. And it's pretty obvious they won't hide that pride.
