Philadelphia's Super Bowl Warm Up: The Wing Bowl
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ―
Well, they came, they saw, they ate 'em all - wings that is.
Philadelphia's bizarre tradition, the annual WIP Wing Bowl competition, was held during the early morning hours Friday before a sold out crowd at the Wachovia Center.
The winner of Wing Bowl 17, John "Super Squibb" Squibb of Berlin, New Jersey tossed back 203 wings over three rounds.
The 23-year-old wing eating champion went home with a Mini Cooper, a $7,500 diamond ring and a crown decorated with miniature chickens.
Of course, the competition would not have been complete without the help of the scantily clad, sometimes naked, "Wingettes." Their job was to keep the competitors eating while cheering them on and entertaining the crowd.
All proceeds of the Wing Bowl will be donated to the Philadelphia Police Department.
