Queens Residents Protest Against Police Brutality
QUEENS (CBS/AP) ―
Activists and residents marched and chanted down the streets of Queens on Saturday protesting the fatal police shooting of Sean Bell.
Members of the NAACP led the rally down Jamaica Avenue with more than 200 people joining them in the peaceful march.
Organizers stressed the Sean Bell case and other police involved shootings require a full federal investigation with a new prosecutor. Robert Harwell, a participant at the rally said there is a strong need for good policing in the black communities. He said, "it could be done."
The New Black Panther Party also held a rally in Queens. They are calling for a citywide boycott lasting 50 days.
Police fired 50 bullets at 23-year-old Bell and two friends, who were injured. All three men were unarmed.
The incident has sparked outrage throughout New York City.
