Albert Pirro, husband of state attorney general candidate Jeanine Pirro, reached a plea deal in traffic court on Thursday that lets him keep his driver's license, a court official said.
Pirro, the source of several embarrassments for his politician wife, was ticketed July 2 after a state trooper clocked him driving his Mercedes-Benz 98 mph in a 55 mph zone along Interstate 95.
In a brief court appearance in New Rochelle City Court, Pirro pleaded guilty to driving 74 mph in a 55 mph zone, and was fined $175, said Jim Generoso, the chief court clerk.
"It was a standard plea, they do it all the time -- it's over," said Pirro's lawyer, James Nolletti.
The top penalty for driving more than 30 mph past the limit is a $600 fine and 30 days in jail. Pirro faced losing his license for going more than 40 mph over the limit, if convicted.
Jeanine Pirro is a former Westchester County district attorney now running as the Republican candidate for the attorney general's seat. Her 59-year-old husband was in federal prison for tax fraud during her last re-election campaign. He also fathered an illegitimate daughter after they married.
