Family Mourns Murdered Real Estate Millionaire

2 Years After His Brother Was Murdered

SADDLE BROOK TOWNSHIP (AP) ― A dozen friends and family members of murdered real estate millionaire Andrew Kissel laid him to rest on Friday, only two and a half years after another bizarre murder befell the family.

Kissel's investment banker brother was killed in Hong Kong in what became known as the "milkshake murder" because he drank a drug-laced strawberry milkshake before he was bludgeoned.

Andrew Kissel's bound and stabbed body was found this week inside the Connecticut mansion he rented with his wife and children. Investigators will not comment on possible motives or suspects in the slaying.

Kissel, 46, was set to plead guilty to federal bank fraud charges after being charged in July with falsifying mortgage documents to acquire as much as $11 million in loans.

"Andrew wanted to be the top of the heap," the victim's 78-year-old father, William Kissel, told The Record of Bergen
County for Saturday newspapers.

In 2003, the family gathered at the same cemetery here to bury sibling Robert Kissel, who was a high-flying investment banker for Merrill Lynch in Hong Kong when his wife, Nancy, gave him a strawberry milkshake laced with drugs before beating him to death with a statue.

"The enormity of the loss that this family has sustained and the reversal of their destiny over the past three years is
incomprehensible and heartbreaking," said Philip Russell, Andrew Kissel's attorney.

Rabbi Joseph Herman led the funeral -- with information about Andrew Kissel's youth in New Jersey provided by his father.

"I zeroed in on Andrew's younger days, when he was a wonderful, happy boy," Herman said. "But, as William said, 'Something went wrong."'
