Investigators Hunting For Evidence In Murder Of Kissel

by Tony Aiello
GREENWICH (CBS) ― Police spent a second day scouring the mansion rented by real estate developer Andrew Kissel, looking for evidence that might point to his killer.

The Connecticut Medical Examiner's Office said 46-year old Kissel died from multiple stab wounds. His body was discovered Monday by movers sent to the house by his estranged wife, Hayley.

Tuesday, the house at 10 Dairy Lane was busy with crime scene investigators. Even the in ground pool was drained as part of the intense search for evidence.

The Greenwich police chief said Kissel was not a random target.

"We don't want people to live in fear that someone is randomly looking for residents to harm, or homes to break into," Chief James Walters said.

Kissel was in the middle of a messy divorce, and headed to prison for a multimillion-dollar financial fraud.

Defense attorney Philip Russell spent Friday with Kissel, preparing him to plead guilty to federal fraud charges.

"There were a number of people unhappy with his behavior but there were no threats," Russell said.

The lawyer described Kissel's personal and financial lives as "messy," but that Kissel wanted to do his prison time and get on with his life.

"He was very affectionate towards his children. He was very contrite about what he had done and I think he wanted to put it behind him and move on," Russell said.

This is another tragic death for the Kissel family. In 2003 Andrew Kissel's brother Robert was murdered by his wife Nancy. It happened in Hong Kong and was dubbed "the milkshake murder."

Police believe Andrew Kissel died sometime Sunday night, hours after his estranged wife moved out of their rented mansion, taking their two daughters with her.

Police say Hayley Kissel has been cooperative with investigators.
