Woman Speaks Out After Alleged Date Rape In Bar

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A Brooklyn woman is claiming she was drugged into unconsciousness and sexually assaulted last Friday night. Although a state senator is championing her cause, many questions remain about her story.

The woman called herself Mary Doe, and was dressed to shield her identity. Saturday she stood with her mother and a state senator and told a story that sparked alarm - and confusion.

She said she was date-raped after a night spent drinking at a Brooklyn nightclub. It was a night that ended at a nearby hospital.

"When I woke up the next day in the hospital I discovered I had several marks all over my body. The marks were located in private areas in my body and appear to be teeth marks," said Mary Doe.

She charged that a man at the bar drugged her, though she has no proof. Yet her story was good enough to convince State Senator Eric Adams to take up her cause.

"When a person comes into a hospital there's a small window to test for date rape drugs," said Adams. "We need to make sure tests are done right away."

Since no test was done that night, it's unclear what if anything was slipped into Mary Doe's drinks. And she says she's not sure she was raped.

"I feel very violated, I don't know if this guy did anything to me, raped me, bit me, but I feel very violated and haven't felt the same," she added.

Last Friday night when the alleged victim came to the 'Khrome Bar And Lounge' with a friend at the invitation of the owner. They had some free drinks, danced, and the next thing she knew, she woke up at the hospital.

The owner, Derek Barney, says he's never heard of her. He does recall trying to send a very drunk woman to the hospital that night.

"We felt a need to call [an] ambulance for her, that was at the behest of my staff. They told me, look, she doesn't look right, I said, ok, lets call for assistance," said Barney. "She was intoxicated, incoherent, slurred voice, walking not too stable, things like that."

Sen. Adams says that police questioned her that night, but no police report was ever filed. After his press conference today, the NYPD issued a statement that it is investigating the matter.

Neighbors of the dance club tell CBS 2 that it's a peaceful establishment that rarely causes problems.
