Cardinal Egan To Have Knee Replaced

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop of New York, will need to undergo knee replacement surgery for his left knee.

A spokesperson for the Archdiocese said that the surgery would be scheduled for early September at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

His stay at the hospital is expected to be brief.

Egan injured his knee in 1999 at his home in Bridgeport.

Successful arthroscopic surgery was performed in July 2000 on the same knee.
