Councilman Wants Con Ed CEO To Resign
WOODSIDE (CBS) ―
New York City Councilman Eric Gioia issued a statement Sunday, accusing Con Edison CEO Kevin Burke of having "no concrete plan for restoration of power to tens of thousands of residents still without electricity." He is calling for Burke's resignation.
The statement reads as follows: "Kevin Burke is clearly not up to the task at hand. Today is Sunday and this blackout began on Monday. Seven days later, he still does not appear to understand the severity of the situation. Under Burke's leadership, Con Edison was utterly unprepared for an emergency of this nature, they misled the public about the severity of the crisis, and they still lack any clear plan to restore us to full power and to ensure the health and safety of Queens residents. Burke is clearly the wrong person to lead Con Ed out of this crisis. He needs to step aside and let someone more capable take charge. The people of Queens deserve answers, and they need real action. I don't think Burke can give them either."
