Drew Carey, come on down. You're the next host of 'The Price Is Right.'
That's right, the goofy and always-smiling comedian with those geeky, old-fashioned black glasses will replace legendary host Bob Barker on the popular, long-running CBS daytime game show.
Carey, who was rumored to be in the running for the gig, announced the deal while taping an interview of the "Late Show" with David Letterman Monday.
"I met with them and stuff and we'd been negotiating ever since and I couldn't say anything," Carey told Letterman. "During your Harry Potter bit, honestly it was about 15 minutes ago, they called me, it's a done deal. I'm the new host of 'The Price Is Right.'"
Filling Barker's shoes will be no easy task for the fun-loving comedian, best known for his sitcom "The Drew Carey Show" and as host of the comedy improv show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Barker, whose fans always enjoyed showing their adoration of him through zany t-shirts, sweaters, and other forms of clothing, retired after 35 years of hosting the hour-long show.
After the announcement, the studio audience gave Carey, 49, an approving ovation as he grinned from ear-to-ear in obvious elation.
Rosie O'Donnell had been considered a possible replacement after she left "The View," but she later announced she wouldn't be getting the job.
Carey will also host a new CBS prime-time game show, "The Power Of 10," which will air first next month.
