Bar May Lose License In Wake Of St. Guillen Murder

'Falls Bar' Accused Of Hampering Investigation

by Scott Weinberger
NEW YORK (CBS) ― WCBSTV.com has learned that the Falls Bar on Lafayette Street could lose its liquor license for failing to cooperate with authorities investigating the murder of grad student Imette St. Guillen and for hiring convicted felons.

Police said St. Guillen went to the Falls for a drink in the early morning hours of Feb. 24. Eighteen hours later, her body was discovered dumped in the East New York section of Brooklyn.

The State Liquor Authority is filing formal charges in order to revoke the bar's license to operate. The Authority alleges that staff at the Falls misled police when they were questioned. Even though they saw St. Guillen at the bar, they did not disclose that fact.

Attorney Joseph Tacopina represents the St. Guillen family.

"It's outrageous to think that anyone would be less then candid with the police trying to investigate what happened to this young girl, especially to the point that you're giving false statements," Tacopina said. "To me that's called criminal."

It was almost a week after Falls staff were questioned, that the bar's attorney contacted police with a more accurate account of that evening. The delay meant the alleged killer, Falls bar bouncer Darryl Littlejohn, had several days to dispose of any possible evidence before police took him into custody. .

CBS 2 was first to report that in addition to Littlejohn, who was on parole, another bouncer at the Falls, Tim Catela, has a violent criminal past.

If the bar refuses to give up its license, sources said several other bars also owned by the Dorian family could be in jeopardy.

Management at the Falls had no comment about the Liquor Authority charges.
