As family and friends await news of the two young Monmouth County, New Jersey girls who became trapped in Georgia last week when the violence broke out, they have come together to establish a charity to aid efforts to bring the girls' home.
Ashley Evans, age 7, and her sister Sophia, age 3, remain safe for now on their grandparent's farm in a small village outside the town of Chiatura.
"We're anxious to get our girls home safely and as soon as possible," said their father, Joseph Evans, an NJ TRANSIT Bus Driver from Howell Township.
After word of this compelling story spread, many people began asking what they can do to help.
To that end, friends and co-workers have organized a grass-roots fundraising effort to help the family with transportation and other expenses related to the effort to return the girls.
Donations to the Jersey Girls Rescue Fund can be sent to 1223 Raymond Blvd., Suite 212, Newark NJ, 07102.
One hundred percent of the funds collected will go directly to the family.
The Jersey Girls Rescue Fund is also calling on New Jersey employers to organize donation efforts in other workplaces throughout the state.
