Immigrant Fraud: Woman Doesn't Deliver Green Cards

District Attorney Says She Collected $1,500 From One Person And $2,450 From Another To Get Them Green Cards

NEW YORK (AP) ― A Hicksville, Long Island woman is being accused of taking money from immigrants to get them green cards and then not delivering.

The Nassau District Attorney says 61-year-old Clementina McDermott claimed to be experienced in immigration matters. Although she is not licensed to practice law in New York State she allegedly told one immigrant that she was a lawyer.

The district attorney says she collected $1,500 from one person and $2,450 from a second person to get them green cards.

District Attorney Dennis Dillon says in one case she sent in the application three months late and in the other case she didn't do any work at all on the file.

Dillon says McDermott is charged with grand larceny and practicing law without a license. The district attorney asks anyone else who dealt with McDermott to call his office.
