Chinese Food Delivery Worker Shot In Head

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A Chinese food delivery man was shot in the head in Bronx Saturday evening.

Talking through a translator, Wam Dong said she is devastated over the senseless shooting of her husband, Fengwang Chen, who worked hard to support their two children.

"He's a very good man," she said.

Chen is recovering at the Jacobi Medical Center after being shot in the head on E. 229th St. Councilmen John Liu and Larry Seabrook say the 31-year-old deliveryman was lured to the Bronx neighborhood just after 7pm and attacked.

Mr. Fenwang Chen was making a delivery yesterday, it turned out to be a bogus delivery because the residents of that address said they had no idea who made that delivery call," Councilman Liu said.

The suspects apparently tried to grab the bag of Chinese food Chen was carrying but it spilled all over the ground. Councilman Liu said they didn't take any Chen's money.

"It is a grave, grave injustice that has taken place and I appeal to the community in which this incident took place that we do not stand with those cowardly acts and the senseless shooting of this individual," added Councilman Seabrook. "I know that someone knows who did this and we're saying it is important that you give them up."

The owner of the New China Garden restaurant was too upset to speak, but he has reportedly said Chen called the restaurant for help after he was shot.

Councilman Liu said there have been a slew of attacks against food deliverymen in recent years and that he's working on creating legislation that would make criminals who target deliverymen face even stiffer penalties.

Police are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible. You can call crime stoppers at 1-800-577-tips or 718-920-1215. All information will be kept confidential.
